Abstract - Maria's Flowers by Marcy Brennan

Oil on 16" x 20" canvas

This is a new abstract of my sister-in-law, Maria's flowers looking down on them from above.  Marie's love for gardening matches my love for painting and I can't believe this is the first painting I've done of her flowers.  I took lots of photos when I visited she and my brother in Tampa last February, so I need to get busy.

I did this in my intuitive oil painting class, and the exercise was to use just the three primary colors, a brown (burnt umber), black and white.  My blue was cerulean, my red was permanent rose and my yellow was cadmium yellow medium.  It's amazing the rainbow of colors you can mix from just these six colors

Dog Portrait of "Jewel" by Marcy Brennan

Oil on 12" x 12" x 1.5" gallery canvas - SOLD - commissioned portrait

This is the second dog portrait my friend commissioned me to paint.  This is of their current dog, Jewel.  Jewel is a basset hound.  If you know anything about basset hounds, then you know that they pretty much rule the house, and this is certainly the case with Jewel.  She's an old girl now and is of course set in her "queenly" ways.  I told my friend we should title this as "I'm Keeping My Eye on You".  :-)

Beau by Marcy Brennan

Oil on 12" x 12" x 1.5" gallery canvas - SOLD - commissioned portrait

Some friends of mine commissioned me to paint their sheltie, Beau, who has been gone for years.  They also commissioned me to paint their current dog, a bassett hound named Jewel, which I'll post next.  Beau was a pretty little dog!

My doggie portrait commissions all started a bit by accident when I painted my daughter's dog, Buddy, for her birthday.  I posted Buddy on Facebook and her friend saw it and commissioned me to paint her dog, Coco.  Then when I posted Coco on Facebook, my friend's daughter saw it and had her mom commission me to paint Jewel, which turned into two paintings, Jewel and Beau.  I'm finding that I really love painting animals, especially dogs.  There's just something special about man's best friend!  There is so much character in their sweet little faces.

If you have a special pet you would like me to paint, a 12" x 12" oil on canvas is $150.  I use your photographs and the painting is wired in the back and ready to hang without a frame.  I paint the 1.5" deep sides the same color as the portrait background.

Mango, Mango, Mango by Marcy Brennan

Oil on 8" x 8" canvas panel

Mike's daughter gave us these three mangoes from her tree, and they had so much beautiful color, I had to get some reference photos before they got eaten!  By the way, they were delicious as well as beautiful :-)
