This was a fun and quick abstract landscape I did from photos I took when my husband and I lived in New Mexico. One crisp and clear fall morning, we took a little day trip southeast of Albuquerque to Mountainair to see a beautiful canyon of maple trees in their fall colors of red and gold.

Purple Water Lily #1 by Marcy Brennan
12" x 12" oil on canvas panel
More from my water lily series. I wanted to do a bit more of an abstract scene for this one, so I took one of Arlene Brooks' beautiful photos and cropped it down to simplify the scene into color and form while still letting the viewer know what the subject matter is referring to. I loved the purple flower against the green of the lily pad, and that's what makes this a serene painting overall, but that "pop" of firey yellow on the leaf and small area of the throat of the flower adds just a touch of vibrancy and excitement to the painting.

Pink Water Lily - End of Day by Marcy Brennan
5" x 7" oil on canvas panel
This is another in my water lily series of paintings. The warm glitters of light on the water and on the stems of the flowers just say "end of day" to me. This is such a peaceful, restful scene but the lively rose color in the flowers gives this picture life and vitality.

Purple Water Lily - The Color Purple by Marcy Brennan
5" x 7" Oil on Canvas Panel
This is the second water lily in my new series. This one was painted with the palette knife the same day as my first water lily. What a fun day!

Pink Water Lily by Marcy Brennan
5" x 7" Oil on Canvas Panel
This is the first of a new series I am beginning of water lilies - one of my favorite subjects!
And of course my first one HAD to be pink - my fav flower color ;-)
This was painted with a palette knife and was a blast to do. I have access to just tons of photos of water lilies courtesy of my friend Arlene Brooks. Thanks Arlene - your photos are incredible - I just hope my paintings do them justice.

Red Peppers - Pepper Party by Marcy Brennan
12" x 12" Oil on 1.5" Deep Gallery Canvas
Oh how I love to paint red peppers! I definitely need to do more peppers in future paintings! These were painted from a photo I snapped at the Fort Pierce Saturday morning Farmer's Market. The edge of the canvas is painted black.
This painting is hanging in my kitchen, and I love it - but....ok, I will sell it if someone wants to buy it. As I've told my sister when she freaks out that I'm selling something: I'm an artist - I can paint more!
