Garden on the Drive

This is a beautiful tropical garden at the street of a large home on Indian River Drive. I've been wanting to paint it since I snapped the photo several years ago. So I decided to do a little watercolor sketch of it in my tiny Moleskine watercolor sketchbook.

This garden caught my eye with its perfect combo of pink Bougainville and periwinkle plumbago. I just love how these flowers play off each other. And the beautiful yellow greens of their foliage make the flower colors pop.

It's rare to see blue flowers in nature, so being the blue lover that I am, I'm especially fond of plumbagos.

Antares - Watercolor Sketch by Marcy Brennan

Boats have never been my forte, but I've been wanting to paint my favorite sailboat in the marina out back for ages. We especially love this one because of where it's from - our old stomping grounds - NM. Corrales is a cool adobe-house-filled little community on the west side of Albuquerque in the Rio Grande valley. Once in a blue moon we see this one go out. We're a loooong trip from
NM!

So my trick to keeping this loose so my ADD brain doesn't go haywire over all the crazy details of a sailboat was to run my photo through the app called Waterlogue. It turns the photo into a loose watercolor. Some day my watercolors will be as beautiful as a Waterlogued one! 😁

I did this in my tiny Moleskine watercolor sketchbook. I love having this little treasure of watercolors done while sitting outside of Uncle Carlo's while Mike has his espresso. Today with the nice breeze that passes through here, it's unbelievably comfortable for mid-August!!
