Waterworks - Original Oil Abstracton Paper by Marcy Brennan

Waterworks - 5"x7" oil abstract on paper - SOLD

I painted a series of oil abstracts several years ago for our local art association fundraiser called Calendart.  This is an especially appropriately named painting for what we are going through on Florida's east coast with Hurricane Matthew approaching us.

And at the same time, I'm under the weather and won't be feeling much like painting for awhile.  So my posts for awhile will be of these Calendart paintings that I've never posted before.

I really loved these painting and am kicking myself for not getting a good hi-res scan of them for prints.  Unfortunately, they were all just iPhone photos.  Live and learn!

Blue Margarita - Original Acrylic Painting by Marcy Brennan

"Blue Margarita" - Acrylic on 20"x20" gallery canvas - $350

Cocktails come in such pretty colors and have interesting names.  This is the second in my cocktail series of attracts, the first being Pink Martini.  My first blue margarita was in our favorite restaurant in Albuquerque years ago called 505.  I fell in love with blue margaritas and can make a pretty great one now myself.  It's my all time favorite cocktail.  ;-)

You can purchase this original painting in my Etsy shop here

Garden on the Drive

This is a beautiful tropical garden at the street of a large home on Indian River Drive. I've been wanting to paint it since I snapped the photo several years ago. So I decided to do a little watercolor sketch of it in my tiny Moleskine watercolor sketchbook.

This garden caught my eye with its perfect combo of pink Bougainville and periwinkle plumbago. I just love how these flowers play off each other. And the beautiful yellow greens of their foliage make the flower colors pop.

It's rare to see blue flowers in nature, so being the blue lover that I am, I'm especially fond of plumbagos.

"Flip Flop Weather" - New Oil and Cold Wax Series by Marcy Brennan

"Flip Flop Weather" - New Oil and Cold Wax Series

I created this new series about two months ago for Delray Beach's Cornell Museum of Art & Culture Third Annual Extraordinary 6x6 Art Sale.  The show begins July 1, 2016 and remains on exhibit the month of July, culminating in the sale of the works on Thursday, July 28, 2016 from 6-8 pm.

I had decided that I would create oil and cold wax paintings in my normal abstract style, but as I began painting, I decided to go with a tropical look, so abstracted palm trees and pink flowers took over.  I used Liquid on top to give the paintings a nice sheen.  The paintings are on cradled wood panels and the sides and back are painted black.  They are wired and ready to hang without a frame.

The museum is located at 51 N. Swinton Ave, Delray Beach, FL.  If you're in the area, I hope you can be there for the sale the evening of July 28th.

Here are the paintings I created which I titled, Flip Flop Weather.  It was still cold and windy in March when I painted these little guys and I was dreaming of warm weather when I could again wear my flip flops and shorts.  (Yes it gets too cold for us wimpy Floridians to wear flip flops during some of the winter months in our area.)

What about you?  What does the temperature have to be for you to wear flip flops?

Feel free to share on Facebook and Twitter and Pin the pictures (but please give me proper credit).

Beach Holiday - 30"x30" Abstract on gallery canvas - $750

This is the second painting in my beach series with more to come!

Lots of beautiful blues and greens that will bring your senses right to the beach!!

Purchase the original and prints here.

It's looking like SPRING in my studio!
New for spring - works in progress

My palette and one of the two new paintings in progress.
I use all Golden acrylics professional artist quality paints except for the white paint you see. I just love the viscosity of the Basics white paint. It's too luscious not to use and mixes so well with the Golden paints.

Hoping to finish these this weekend for the new Loft Gallery show going up for next Wednesday's Art Walk.

"Beach Escape" Acrylic Abstract Large Original Painting by Marcy Brennan

Beach Escape - 30"x30" Acrylic Abstract on Canvas - $750

This is a lively and colorful abstract in cool colors that will enhance any space with this color scheme.  Unlike realism, there is always something new to notice in an abstract painting.  Also, abstract paintings can be hung in any direction, giving you an entirely new painting each time you turn it on the wall.

If you love blues and green, this painting is for you!  It's like having the beach in your home!!!

The 1.5" deep edges are painted black and it is wired and ready to hang without a frame.

"Hoping" - Oil and Cold Wax by Marcy Brennan

"Hoping" - 8" x 6" x 1.5" oil and cold wax on paper mounted to wood cradled panel - $50

I love the colors that came out in this piece and the nice composition that resulted from the oil and cold wax process.  Some things can be controlled in this process, but not everything, and for me, that's the beauty of working in this medium.  You never really know how things will end up!  It was originally worked on paper and then mounted on a 8"x6" cradled wood panel with 1.5" deep edges painted black.  It is ready to hang without a frame.

Sun Bathers by Marcy Brennan

Sun Bathers - 12"x12" acrylic on canvas - NFS

When I was looking through my photos of beach scenes I'd taken in the past, I came across this one of North Beach that I've used on my real estate website for several years.  I wanted a beach scene to paint as a wedding gift for a young lady I've known since she was a little girl -- my previous pastor's daughter.  They've since moved to Kentucky and a different church, but this young lady fell in love before they left and now they are getting married and she'll be living in Florida again!  Her whole family lived close to the beach and spent lots of time there during the many years they lived on the Treasure Coast.  So happy for Katy and Smith and wish them many happy years together.  Hope they enjoy this painting for a very long time!

I'm Featured on Saatchi Art's Home Page Again!

Coral Reef 1 - Featured by Saatchi Online Art Gallery

I'm thrilled to again be a featured artist on Saatchi Art's "Affordable Originals Collection" here.

This honor is yet another validation that I'm on the right track with my oil and cold wax paintings!  I love the process and challenge of this medium!

This painting is 20"x20"x2" on a cradled birch panel.  A cradled panel looks like a gallery wrap canvas on the front.  But it's made out of wood, not canvas.  I have left the wood sides natural and just put a few coats of polycrylic on them to protect them.

This painting is available for sale here

Monet's Garden by Marcy Brennan

Monet's Garden - 8"x8" oil on canvas panel - $100

This started as a total abstract painting with a limited palette of yellow, purple and green using a palette knife.  I was actually painting it one way, and when I turned it 90 degrees, it looked like Monet's garden.  So I added a little red for flowers and a few finishing touches, and voila! It's an abstracted Monet's garden.  That's what they call a "happy accident" in the art world. ;-)

Coral Reef 4 by Marcy Brennan

Coral Reef 4 - 20" x 20" x 2" - oil and cold wax on cradled birch panel - $950

This is the fourth in a series of four oil and cold wax paintings on cradled birch panels. In working this series, I returned to my love of the colors of the waters that surround us where my husband and I live on beautiful Hutchinson Island, Florida. In working the final stages of the paintings, I began adding corals to the blues on two of the pieces, and as I added some textures to the pieces, they reminded me of underwater coral, thus the name for the series.
