Three Little Pigs by Marcy Brennan

Three Little Pigs - 5" x 7" watercolor and ink on paper - $25

I've had this photo a friend took of her kids' pigs that they raise to show and sell at the fair.  So these little cuties may be on somebody's breakfast table now for all I know!  They sure were fun to paint.  The two larger ones look like they're kissing, but they were probably really fighting over food. ;-)

European Village by Marcy Brennan

European Village - 5" x 7" watercolor and ink on paper - $50

This is my submission to this month's Virtual Paintout blog and this month's spot is Bulgaria.  The actual photo was taken in the winter, but it lacked interest (color), so I changed the setting to spring and I like the way it turned out.  The  red tiled roofs and the different levels the homes were set on are what attracted me to this scene.

Tropical Flowers by Marcy Brennan

Tropical Flowers - 5" x 7" watercolor on paper - $25

I don't know the name of these beautiful tropical flowers, but they were in a pot at Immokolee.  I took photos of them while I was out there for artist day in February and couldn't wait to paint them.  The colors are much prettier in person.  I could seem to get a photo to really capture the colors quite right.

Tulips! Spring is Here by Marcy Brennan

Tulips! Spring is Here - 8" x 10" watercolor on paper - $65

I painted this for this week's challenge on the Daily Paintworks website where I place my paintings for sale.  This week's challenge is all about spring and Farmer's Markets, and amazingly, it's the first challenge I'm submitting to ;-).

We have one of the best and longest running Farmer's Markets in Florida here in Fort Pierce right on the waterfront every Saturday morning year 'round, rain or shine!  We love the sights, smells, food, coffees, smoothies, flowers, sounds from the different live band each week, fresh produce and arts and crafts all set along our beautiful Indian River.

We don't often find tulips at our Farmer's Market, but the orchids are wonderful and they are on my list to paint.  So much to paint....so little time....sigh :-)))

Reflections by Marcy Brennan

Reflections - 12" x 12" acrylic on gallery canvas - $150

I was inspired by a photo I saw in Pinterest depicting beautiful colorful buildings reflected in the water on a street.  Soooo love Pinterest!  I took my color cues from the photo and just used my palette knife and heavy gloss gel medium and had fun!  An artist friend told me it looked like a Hans Hoffman.  Not being much into art history, I had no idea who that was, so came home and looked him up on the internet.  I can see a little bit of his style in this painting, but his colors were more primary bright colors of red, yellow and blue, but it could be named "After Hans Hoffman" if I'd actually known about him when I painted it.  ;-D

You Are a Shield About Me by Marcy Brennan

You Are a Shield About Me - 12" x 12" acrylic on gallery canvas - $150

This abstract just kind of took on a life of its own as I developed it layer by layer.  When I got to this layer, it just kind of spoke to me that I was "there".  I was simply inspired by color and texture as I worked.  I often listen to Christian rock music as I paint, and a phrase of a song struck me as the perfect name for this piece.

Marvelous Light by Marcy Brennan

Marvelous Light - 5" x 7" watercolor on paper - $25

I love architectural close-ups and this home was so incredibly picturesque.  I have tons of reference photos from all different angles of this historic old home in Fort Pierce, FL called Immolokee, also known as the Dorothy Binney Palmer home.  The owners were gracious enough to invite local artists out for a day of painting, photographing and just wandering around their lovely grounds in February.  The weather and light that day couldn't have been more perfect!  Thus the name of this piece, Marvelous Light.

Let's Get Colorful by Marcy Brennan

Let's Get Colorful - 8" x 8" acrylic on canvas panel - SOLD

This painting is my submission for this month to the Let's Paint New Mexico blog.  I started this painting in my normal way, with brushes, and just wanted thicker paint, so worked it over with my palette knife and extra heavy glossy gel medium.  I like the movement the palette knife created in this piece.  Zinnias are multi-layered flowers and this technique really lent itself to painting them.  The flowers on the right are small sunflowers.
