New Serengeti Abstract Series in Progress by Marcy Brennan

New Serengeti Abstract Series in Progress

I just began a new series today for the Art Mundo Loft Gallery show coming up next month titled "Serengeti".  There are such fantastic sunsets on the Serengeti, I decided to do my abstract paintings in the sunset colors there. Reds, oranges, yellows, and black (for silhouetted trees).  Here are photos of the first few layers at this point.  More to come in the next few days. The black lines in the first layer are really intense because I forgot my black paint and had to borrow from a friend.  All she had was black gesso - it's really strong!

Life in Uruguay Show at Art Mundo by Judith Sharpe-Levy

My artist friend, Judith Sharpe-Levy was selected as one of Art Mundo's emerging artists for 2014.  She and I paint together often at Art Mundo and previously attended art classes with Leslie Stokes there.  We now share a studio at Art Mundo.  Judith threw herself into her emerging artists show and painted an incredible series of paintings drawn from her life in Uruguay where she and her husband owned a farm for 8 years.  The work is wonderful in its color harmony and her figural work is amazing.

This is a very large painting of a market in Uruguay

Dorian Gray's Parlor by Marcy Brennan

Dorian Gray's Parlor - Acrylic on 20"x16"x1.5" gallery canvas - $150

This is a painting I did for the Art Mundo Loft Gallery Dorian Gray show for July. Dorian Gray was a character in a book by Oscar Wilde.  The gallery was filled with all kinds of great art interpretations of the book.  It is up until Aug 6.  Art Mundo is located at 111 Orange Ave, downtown Fort Pierce.  Stop by to view this really interesting show.

This painting is for sale until only Aug 14th.  If it doesn't sell by then, I will paint over it with an abstract.  So grab while you can at this price if this is your thing!

RIP Ryan Duffy

My precious, courageous grandson Ryan Duffy passed away yesterday after a lifetime battle with Hunter Syndrome. He fought valiantly for 17 years. He is truly my hero along with his wonderful parents, Stephanie (my daughter) and Joe (my son-in-law). God couldn't have placed this child with better parents. They've been an inspiration to all of us as has Ryan. He never complained. He just soldiered on every single day. We will forever miss our little man and cherish him in our hearts. Rest in peace sweet angel.

I'm Featured on Saatchi Art's Home Page Again!

Coral Reef 1 - Featured by Saatchi Online Art Gallery

I'm thrilled to again be a featured artist on Saatchi Art's "Affordable Originals Collection" here

This honor is yet another validation that I'm on the right track with my oil and cold wax paintings!  I love the process and challenge of this medium!

This painting is 20"x20"x2" on a cradled birch panel.  A cradled panel looks like a gallery wrap canvas on the front.  But it's made out of wood, not canvas.  I have left the wood sides natural and just put a few coats of polycrylic on them to protect them.

Sun Kissed Hills by Marcy Brennan

Sun Kissed Hills - 8" x 8" oil on canvas panel - $100

This is one in a series of three limited palette paintings I did on 8" x 8" canvas panels with a palette knife.  It is an abstracted imaginary landscape of my concept of rolling hills in Tuscany with the warm kiss of the sun on the fields.

Where the Wind Goes by Marcy Brennan

Where the Wind Goes - 8"x8" oil on canvas panel - $100

This is an imaginary landscape I painted using a limited palette of yellow, purple and green.  I added some pops of red for the flowers.  It ended up looking rather wind-swept, thus the name.

Monet's Garden by Marcy Brennan

Monet's Garden - 8"x8" oil on canvas panel - $100

This started as a total abstract painting with a limited palette of yellow, purple and green using a palette knife.  I was actually painting it one way, and when I turned it 90 degrees, it looked like Monet's garden.  So I added a little red for flowers and a few finishing touches, and voila! It's an abstracted Monet's garden.  That's what they call a "happy accident" in the art world. ;-)
