"Garden Song" - New Acrylic Abstract Series by Marcy Brennan

"Garden Song" Acrylic Abstract Series

8" x 8" x 1.5" gallery wrap canvas

This is an acrylic abstract series in all the colors of spring. It has lots of texture and lively brush strokes.  These would look great in a contemporary home or apartment where a nice pop of color is needed.

The edges are painted black and it is wired and ready to hang. However, they would look wonderful set in black floater frames.

There are a couple of different ways to hang these paintings:
four in a row horizontally
four in a row vertically
two by two

What sort of art do you like?  Representational (an artistic interpretation of something that exists) or abstract (something created that never existed before).  Most people think it's much harder to create a representational work of art and that an abstract is "something my kindergartener could do".  That's because they've never attempted to create an abstract painting!

There's nothing to look at when creating an abstract painting.  It comes totally from inside the artist - it's their thoughts and feelings that come out onto the canvas - not a copy of something they see.  The color harmonies and values (light and dark) must work, the composition must be pleasing and the brushwork or palette knife work and texture or lack thereof must all fit together like a jigsaw puzzle - only there's no picture to refer to while putting it all together.

Does this change your view of abstract art or not?  Let me know your thoughts.

"Once Again" - New Abstract Acrylic Mini Series by Marcy Brennan

"Once Again" - Abstract Acrylic 8"x8"x1.5" Mini's - $40 each

See the collage below to see how cool these paintings look all together!

I've provided a link to my Etsy shop that you can get to by clicking on each individual painting name.

These would look fabulous in a black floater frame in a set of four as shown in the collage.

They would also look great with just one on a small black table easel or hung on a small wall that needs a little pop of color.

All edges are painted black and each painting is wired and can be hung without a frame.

It's looking like SPRING in my studio!
New for spring - works in progress

My palette and one of the two new paintings in progress.
I use all Golden acrylics professional artist quality paints except for the white paint you see. I just love the viscosity of the Basics white paint. It's too luscious not to use and mixes so well with the Golden paints.

Hoping to finish these this weekend for the new Loft Gallery show going up for next Wednesday's Art Walk.

New Abstract Watercolors in 100 Paintings Challenge

These are number 5-8 of my abstract watercolor paintings for the 100 Paintings Challenge

I'm actually through 52 paintings, but it takes time to scan them all.  So I'll just post 4 every day or so to get caught up.

I'm using 3 different watercolor palettes of complimentary colors.  One is red and green colors, one is blue and orange colors and one is yellow and purple colors.  Complimentary colors painted together give some interesting subtle grays, so this has been a fun and enlightening exercise.

New Mini Abstract Series - Bonita by Marcy Brennan

New Mini Abstract Series - Bonita

I have had a blast paintings a number of new series of tiny abstract paintings and will be sharing them with you series by series.  This first series I'm sharing is called Bonita, after Bonita Springs, Florida. These are really colorful little gems that would be perfect in a grouping on a small wall that is screaming for a pop of color!

These are all acrylic paintings with a heavy high gloss gel medium mixed into the acrylic, painted with only a palette knife (no brushes).  The gloss gel medium gives them a nice sheen.  The edges are all painted in a medium gray color.

Each 6"x6" painting is $25 each and each 8"x8" painting is $35 each.  I also offer some discounts for multiple purchases and prints of each are available as well.  Please visit my website for more info.

Bonita 1 - 6"x6" on 1.5" deep gallery wrap canvas

Bonita 2 - 6"x6" on 1.5" deep gallery wrap canvas

Bonita 3 - 6"x6" on 1.5" deep gallery wrap canvas

Bonita 4 - 6"x6" on 1.5" deep gallery wrap canvas

Bonita 5 - 6"x6" on 1.5" deep gallery wrap canvas

Bonita 6 - 6"x6" on 1.5" deep gallery wrap canvas

Bonita 7 - 8"x8" on 1.5" deep gallery wrap canvas

Bonita 8 - 8"x8" on 1.5" deep gallery wrap canvas

Bonita 9 - 8"x8" on 1.5" deep gallery wrap canvas

There are so many different ways to hang a grouping of these paintings!  You can even hang them on the diagonal for a really different look.  ;-)  I created a Diptic of all nine of the paintings to give you an idea of how cool they all look together.  (Keep in mind the bottom 3 are larger than the top six, but with prints, you can have all nine printed the same size.)

I'd love to hear how you would use these paintings in a grouping.  Also, if you have a particular set of colors you would like painted in my swirly abstract style, I would be happy to create some especially for you.  Just leave me a comment below.

This is the second in my sea glass abstract series.
I have a whole bowl of sea glass in my home in these colors.
My earliest memory of color goes back to the age of three when I first
laid eyes on colorful depression glass.
So I've always had a fascination with all types of colorful glass.
Have you collected any sea glass?
What are you favorite colors to collect?
