Arroyo Seco Village Church, New Mexico by Marcy Brennan

6" x 6" watercolor on paper - Arroyo Seco Church

This is the first in a new series of four churches for the Let's Paint New Mexico blog photo challenge.  Can't wait to see what the other 3 churches will be.  The little village churches of New Mexico are some of my favorite subjects to paint.  This one was great fun.  I decided to do this series in watercolor rather than my usual oil.  Sometimes changing mediums is just what is needed for a fresh perspective!

Abstract - Heart Beat #1 by Marcy Brennan

Abstract - Heart Beat #1 by Marcy Brennan - 12" x 12" acrylic on gallery canvas
Sides are painted and it's ready to hang with or without a frame - $150

I'm always inspired by colors of the water and this one just flowed.  It needed a pop and thus the red circle.  Reminded me of hearts beating.  Thus the name.  I did 3 more smaller abstracts in same colors with the red heart beat and will be posting them over the next few days.

Lettuce Lake, Tampa, Florida by Marcy Brennan

Lettuce Lake, Tampa, FL - 5" x 7" oil on canvas panel

This is a view from a small tower set out over the edge of Lettuce Lake, a beautiful state park in north Tamps, FL. I was there visiting my brother for  his birthday in February - we had wonderful, spring-like weather, and the azaleas were out in full force at the park entrance.  I took dozens of photos, but this one scene really spoke to me.  I did this with a palette knife - no brushes, so there's lots of thick, juicy paint on this one.

My sister-in-law home schools their son, and he's been interested in photography for quite a long time.  She brings him here each month to photograph the changes in the lake and foliage.  What a wonderful idea!  Many daily painters I've seen paint the same scene they see from their home or studio each day to capture the changing weather, etc.  I hope they keep it up.  It would make great art for a calendar for 2013.  I would want one for sure!

Pink Water Lilies, Blue Pond by Marcy Brennan

Pink Water Lilies on Blue Pond - 11" x 9" watercolor on paper

This is a watercolor version for my water lily series.  All the others were done in oil, but I love the freshness and spontaneity of watercolor for a change of pace.

Arroyo Hondo by Marcy Brennan

Oil on 12" x 12" x 3/4" gallery canvas - Donated

I painted this from a photo taken by NM artist Dee Sanchez for her artist photo challenge on her blog Let's Paint New Mexico.  I donated this painting to our local 4-H Club for their annual Beef Builder's dinner auction to raise funds for their club.

Birds of Paradise by Marcy Brennan

8" x 8" oil on panel

I painted this from a photo I took out at Ocean Village here on Hutchinson Island a few months ago.  They were the most perfect flowers and the foliage surrounding them was lush and beautiful.
