"Flip Flop Weather" - New Oil and Cold Wax Series by Marcy Brennan

"Flip Flop Weather" - New Oil and Cold Wax Series

I created this new series about two months ago for Delray Beach's Cornell Museum of Art & Culture Third Annual Extraordinary 6x6 Art Sale.  The show begins July 1, 2016 and remains on exhibit the month of July, culminating in the sale of the works on Thursday, July 28, 2016 from 6-8 pm.

I had decided that I would create oil and cold wax paintings in my normal abstract style, but as I began painting, I decided to go with a tropical look, so abstracted palm trees and pink flowers took over.  I used Liquid on top to give the paintings a nice sheen.  The paintings are on cradled wood panels and the sides and back are painted black.  They are wired and ready to hang without a frame.

The museum is located at 51 N. Swinton Ave, Delray Beach, FL.  If you're in the area, I hope you can be there for the sale the evening of July 28th.

Here are the paintings I created which I titled, Flip Flop Weather.  It was still cold and windy in March when I painted these little guys and I was dreaming of warm weather when I could again wear my flip flops and shorts.  (Yes it gets too cold for us wimpy Floridians to wear flip flops during some of the winter months in our area.)

What about you?  What does the temperature have to be for you to wear flip flops?

Feel free to share on Facebook and Twitter and Pin the pictures (but please give me proper credit).

New Mini Abstract Series - Bonita by Marcy Brennan

New Mini Abstract Series - Bonita

I have had a blast paintings a number of new series of tiny abstract paintings and will be sharing them with you series by series.  This first series I'm sharing is called Bonita, after Bonita Springs, Florida. These are really colorful little gems that would be perfect in a grouping on a small wall that is screaming for a pop of color!

These are all acrylic paintings with a heavy high gloss gel medium mixed into the acrylic, painted with only a palette knife (no brushes).  The gloss gel medium gives them a nice sheen.  The edges are all painted in a medium gray color.

Each 6"x6" painting is $25 each and each 8"x8" painting is $35 each.  I also offer some discounts for multiple purchases and prints of each are available as well.  Please visit my website for more info.

Bonita 2 - 6"x6" on 1.5" deep gallery wrap canvas

Bonita 3 - 6"x6" on 1.5" deep gallery wrap canvas

Bonita 4 - 6"x6" on 1.5" deep gallery wrap canvas

Bonita 5 - 6"x6" on 1.5" deep gallery wrap canvas

Bonita 6 - 6"x6" on 1.5" deep gallery wrap canvas

Bonita 7 - 8"x8" on 1.5" deep gallery wrap canvas

Bonita 8 - 8"x8" on 1.5" deep gallery wrap canvas

Bonita 9 - 8"x8" on 1.5" deep gallery wrap canvas

There are so many different ways to hang a grouping of these paintings!  You can even hang them on the diagonal for a really different look.  ;-)  I created a Diptic of all nine of the paintings to give you an idea of how cool they all look together.  (Keep in mind the bottom 3 are larger than the top six, but with prints, you can have all nine printed the same size.)

I'd love to hear how you would use these paintings in a grouping.  Also, if you have a particular set of colors you would like painted in my swirly abstract style, I would be happy to create some especially for you.  Just leave me a comment below.
