"Garden Song" - New Acrylic Abstract Series by Marcy Brennan

"Garden Song" Acrylic Abstract Series

8" x 8" x 1.5" gallery wrap canvas

This is an acrylic abstract series in all the colors of spring. It has lots of texture and lively brush strokes.  These would look great in a contemporary home or apartment where a nice pop of color is needed.

The edges are painted black and it is wired and ready to hang. However, they would look wonderful set in black floater frames.

There are a couple of different ways to hang these paintings:
four in a row horizontally
four in a row vertically
two by two

What sort of art do you like?  Representational (an artistic interpretation of something that exists) or abstract (something created that never existed before).  Most people think it's much harder to create a representational work of art and that an abstract is "something my kindergartener could do".  That's because they've never attempted to create an abstract painting!

There's nothing to look at when creating an abstract painting.  It comes totally from inside the artist - it's their thoughts and feelings that come out onto the canvas - not a copy of something they see.  The color harmonies and values (light and dark) must work, the composition must be pleasing and the brushwork or palette knife work and texture or lack thereof must all fit together like a jigsaw puzzle - only there's no picture to refer to while putting it all together.

Does this change your view of abstract art or not?  Let me know your thoughts.

"Flip Flop Weather" - New Oil and Cold Wax Series by Marcy Brennan

"Flip Flop Weather" - New Oil and Cold Wax Series

I created this new series about two months ago for Delray Beach's Cornell Museum of Art & Culture Third Annual Extraordinary 6x6 Art Sale.  The show begins July 1, 2016 and remains on exhibit the month of July, culminating in the sale of the works on Thursday, July 28, 2016 from 6-8 pm.

I had decided that I would create oil and cold wax paintings in my normal abstract style, but as I began painting, I decided to go with a tropical look, so abstracted palm trees and pink flowers took over.  I used Liquid on top to give the paintings a nice sheen.  The paintings are on cradled wood panels and the sides and back are painted black.  They are wired and ready to hang without a frame.

The museum is located at 51 N. Swinton Ave, Delray Beach, FL.  If you're in the area, I hope you can be there for the sale the evening of July 28th.

Here are the paintings I created which I titled, Flip Flop Weather.  It was still cold and windy in March when I painted these little guys and I was dreaming of warm weather when I could again wear my flip flops and shorts.  (Yes it gets too cold for us wimpy Floridians to wear flip flops during some of the winter months in our area.)

What about you?  What does the temperature have to be for you to wear flip flops?

Feel free to share on Facebook and Twitter and Pin the pictures (but please give me proper credit).

Four Plein Air Oil Painting Sales This Month by Marcy Brennan

Four Plein Air Oil Painting Sales This Month

Four of my 8"x10" plein air oil paintings were purchased by a collector in Albuquerque, New Mexico this month via my Etsy shop.  It turns out she lived in Vero Beach previously, and my little paintings of our lovely area brought a little piece of paradise home to her in the high desert.  As it turns out, my husband and I previously lived in Albuquerque before moving back to Florida.  It was pretty cool to find out about our cross-country switch-up.  The last painting she purchased just yesterday is some early Christmas shopping.  It would be great if more people did their shopping for gifts on Etsy and buy American and hand made like this collector!

"Two for One" - two boats at Vero Beach Marina

"Jungle Trail" - north of Vero Beach on the island

"Potted" - painted during the Main Street Plein Air Juried Paintout - potted plants
outside the historic PP Cobb building

"Turquoise Cottage" - painted during the Main Street Plein Air Juried Paintout - this
is an historic little cottage in Edgartown just north of downtown Ft Pierce that now houses
Palms Wellness Center

Do you believe in buying original art and supporting American artists?  Do you shop on Etsy for art or other hand made items?  How do you feel about supporting American artists versus buying from big box stores where everything is made overseas?

Feel free to pin these paintings and share this article on your favorite social media.  :-)

Plein Air at Heathcote Botanical Gardens Video Tour by Marcy Brennan

Video Tour of Heathcote Botanical Gardens - Plein Air Painting There in Feb 2015 - With Two Finished Paintings

by Marcy Brennan

I'm just a tad late posting this tour, but the gardens are still the same and it was such a beautiful day that my group, the Plein Air Painters of the Treasure Coast, were there that I had to share this.

I discovered the videos while organizing my 8,000+ photos and videos on my iPhone last night.  I've been working on this project for over a month and am now into early 2015.  I realized that I had my phone in portrait mode for most of the video - not the best way to do that, so I apologize in advance for that videoing mistake.  :-)

My two finished plein air paintings are pictured below and are for sale in my Etsy Shop.

"Pink Martini" Acrylic on Canvas by Marcy Brennan

Pink Martini - 30"x30" Acrylic on Canvas - $750

If you love color as much as I do, then you will LOVE this painting! I was listening to a great new station (to me) on Pandora while painting this called Pink Martini.  It's eclectic and kind of old fashioned French, Italian and piano bar music.  I'd already bought these luscious new magenta colors, so the name simply had to be "Pink Martini".

Purchase original and prints here.
