Purple Water Lily #2 by Marcy Brennan

12" x 12" oil on canvas panel

This is another close-up view of one of Arlene Brooks' beautiful photos of water lilies.  The entire flower is so beautiful, but I love painting the more abstract looking close-up of just a part of the flower.

Rancho de Taos Hacienda by Marcy Brennan

16" x 20" Oil on Canvas - SOLD

This is a private home in the little compound area surrounding the most photographed church in the US, San Francisco de Asis in Rancho de Taos, just south of the little town of Taos, NM.  This was another palette knife painting - no brushes.  I painted this from a photo I took while visiting the church on one of our many trips to Taos when we lived in New Mexico.  How I miss living there - such beautiful country!!!

Country French Still Life by Marcy Brennan

16" x 20" Oil on Canvas - $150

One of the few still life set-ups I've had the courage to do!  This was a scene from my kitchen counter (See my reference photo below).  I decided to make the ceramic canisters a golden yellow and the fruit bowl a Provence blue to give this scene a country French feeling.  I also added color to the background (my white refrigerator) and the counter.  It was fun creating my own little still life world.  I gave this to my daughter as a birthday present and it's still in her kitchen.  But you can still purchase a print on paper or canvas.

Mountainair, New Mexico Canyon by Marcy Brennan

8" x 10" Oil on Masonite Panel - SOLD

Another painting from our day trip to Mountainair, New Mexico south of Albuquerque.  This was the road we took back into a canyon area where there were flaming red maples.  See my other two Mountainair paintings. What a beautiful day and a great way to memorialize it.

Fall in Northern New Mexico by Marcy Brennan

16" x 20" Oil on Canvas - SOLD

This is the northern end of the Embudo Valley, near Taos, NM.  Lots of white water rafting goes on here (you can see some white caps on the river in this painting).  This painting was done with a palette knife vs brushes.  It's from a photo I took years ago in one of our trips from Albuquerque to Taos.  The area is just south of Pilar where the white water rafting trips begin.

Coral Hibiscus by Marcy Brennan

8" x 10" Acrylic on Masonite Panel - SOLD - BUY A PRINT HERE

I painted this from a photo I took of one of our beautiful hisbiscus.  We planted each one of our hibiscus plants with different color flowers and it was like a rainbow when they all bloomed!  Hibiscus are a very popular flower in South Florida and their blooms don't last long, so you have to get your photos quickly!

Mr Photogenic - Look-Downs at Atlantis Aquarium by Marcy Brennan

16" x 20" Oil on 1.5" Gallery Canvas

These are look-downs that I painted from a photo I took at the Atlantis Aquarium in the Bahamas.  I used artistic license and turned rather boring yellow fish into vibrant orange and yellow fish.  I love the vibrancy you get when you use the complimentary colors of orange and blue against each other!

Pink Cottage on the Drive by Marcy Brennan

9-1/2" x 7-1/2" Watercolor on Paper

This is my vision of a little cottage I photographed along the "Drive" as we call it in St. Lucie County Florida.  Its official name is Indian River Drive, and it's a beautiful winding road along the Indian River with homes across the street from the river (for the most part).  I don't remember what color the cottage was, but I painted it my favorite color for cottages:  pink!  I used watercolor and waterproof ink to bring out the details.

Colette's Flower Shoppe by Marcy Brennan

11" x 14" Watercolor on paper

I had fun designing this piece.  I put my birth year  of 1951 on the transom above the door and my husband's birth year on the window where it says Established 1931.  There are lots of pretty little details in this that the photo probably doesn't do justice.

Hot Tropical Hibiscus by Marcy Brennan

11-1/2" x 9" Acrylic on Paper

I had fun painting the hot reds, yellows and oranges of these hibiscus flowers against a bright lime green background.  Hibiscus flowers are everywhere in South Florida where I live, and I think nothing says the tropics like these flowers!

Pond at Adam's Ranch by Marcy Brennan

9" x 12" Oil on Masonite

This painting was done in just 20 minutes as a challenge in our Intuitive Oil class.  We picked our own subject and I chose a photo my teacher had of Adam's Ranch.  The goal of the challenge was to free us from painting every little thing and just concentrate on form and color.  I like how it turned out.  It helped me meet my goal of fewer strokes to get the point across.

Portrait of Mike Brennan by Marcy Brennan

9" x 12" Oil on Masonite - Artist's Collection

This is my first portrait!  It is of my husband Mike.  I completed most of it in my Intuitive Oil painting class and finished it up the same day at home.  My goal was to get the features in the right place and to express the portrait by the use of color as much as form.  The challenging part was that my reference photo was on my iphone and it wasn't a head shot!  The screen kept going blank and I had to constantly turn the phone back on to see what I was painting.  Next time, I'll print the photo on paper ;-)

This was my reference photo

Portrait of Andrea by Marcy Brennan

8" x 10" oil on masonite - Artist's Collection

I have never had any desire to paint faces - until my intuitive oils class.  Our teacher went over the basic placement of the features on the face and turned us loose.  I worked most of the class on this and couldn't stop.  After I got home, I continued working for another five hours, but it's definitely my daughter Andrea! She was giving me one of those classic teenager's looks as if to say, "Mom you're such a geek always wanting to take pictures of us."  She was 16 at the time and now she's in her mid-30's, so this is a special piece for my own collection.  Of course, now I need to do one of her sister from the same trip so I have a complete set!

Pretty Red Cow by Marcy Brennan

24" x 24" Oil on Gallery Canvas - SOLD

I painted this from a photo I took out west of Fort Pierce for the "Cow" Show at Art Mundo in June 2011.  My focus for this painting was to have it look like she posed for this portrait, which in a way, she did, because this is just how she looked at me - as if she was saying, "Ok, I'm ready for my photo."  She was one of the few cows that didn't run away like a scaredy cat when I pulled over to shoot photos.  ;-)

I donated her in October to the FFA Beef Builder's auction to raise money for their club.

This is a close-up of the my pretty red cow - she has dreamy eyes!

Beautiful Country by Marcy Brennan

16" x 20" Oil on Canvas Panel

I painted this in my intuitive oils class.  It's from a photo taken out west of Fort Pierce.  It was an experiment to do a quick warm-up painting in 20-minutes.  I did it all with my right hand (I'm left-handed).  Everyone loved the sky color.  It made such an interesting background for the rest of the scene.  I especially like the more abstract, loose quality of this painting and I may just take to painting "wrong-handed" from now on! ;-)

Dreaming of St. Pete Farmer's Market by Marcy Brennan

11" x 14" Acrylic & Ink on Paper

This dreamy painting of the St. Pete Saturday morning Farmer's Market was my interpretation of the wonderful morning I spent there with my brother.  The music sort of wrapped itself around me and made me think of waves of musical notes floating in the air.

Farmer's Market Bing Cherries by Marcy Brennan

12" x 12" oil on 1-1/2" deep gallery canvas - $250

I painted this last year from a photo I took one Saturday morning at our wonderful Fort Pierce Farmer's Market in our beautiful little downtown right on the Indian River waterfront. The market has grown incredibly over the past five years, and it's now one of the top farmer's markets in Florida.  Rain or shine, cold, wind, or dog days of summer, the market shall go on!

These were the most luscious cherries, I couldn't resist snapping a photo to paint from later.  I cropped the outside edges of the little blue cartons (my favorite Taos blue color) to give this a more graphic look.

I just realized this week that I'd never posted this to my site.  I think I subconsciously didn't post this painting because I especially love the colors and shapes, hung it in my kitchen and have been enjoying it so much ever since!  Every time I look at this painting, I want to pluck one of those cherries right off the wall and pop it into my mouth - LOVE bing cherries!  How about you?

Flowers for Sale - Little Roadside Flower Market by Marcy Brennan

9" x 12" Watercolor on Paper

This is a fun and colorful watercolor I did while my sister Vangy and I were at the West Palm Beach arts and crafts market in December to sell our Christmas cards I'd painted.  More to the truth--she did the selling
while I "played" with my watercolors.  Two days of uninterrupted painting and sister-bonding.  It just doesn't get any better than that for me!!!

Sunset On the Indian River Inlet by Marcy Brennan

8" x 10" oil on masonite - SOLD

I painted this last evening from a photo I took while at dinner with friends at a restaurant called On the Edge.  It was a "Chamber of Commerce" picture perfect evening last fall and we were sitting outside right at the water's edge.  I managed to get half a dozen photos as the sun was setting and voila!, here is the painting that resulted.  It was done with a palette knife and I thoroughly enjoyed the lush feel of the oils under the palette knife while doing this piece.

Abstract Circles - #5 by Marcy Brennan

11" x 14" oil on gessoed paper

This is the fifth and last of the abstract circles paintings I did in our intuitive oils class.  I think this was actually the first one I did.  I was going for lots of bright and cheerful colors and I think I managed to get that.

Abstract Circles - #4 by Marcy Brennan

11" x 14" oil on gessoed paper

This is the fourth in the series of abstract circles paintings I did in our intuitive oils class.  OK, so this isn't exactly totally abstract, because as you can see, there is obviously a house in this one, but a very abstract one.  I'm a Realtor, so you'll have to just forgive the bit of representationalism in this one.  I was "feeling" a house coming on as I was playing with circles and color, so I just went with it!

Abstract Circles #3 by Marcy Brennan

11" x 14" oil on gessoed paper

This is the third in a series of abstracts with circles I did in our intuitive oils class.  While I had no intention of there being anything representational in this, two eyes with glasses and a nose is showing up here, at least to me!

Abstract Circles - #2 by Marcy Brennan

11" x 14" oil on gessoed paper

This is the second in a series of abstract paintings I did of circles in my intuitive oil painting class.  My concentric circles eventually became concentric squares - totally unplanned.  I added a bit of texture to this that you can see a bit of in the photo.
